ABOUT THE CHAPTER MEETING: How to Build Your Racial Competence

Recent events and the climate of racial injustice and unrest have opened up conversations about systemic racism, equality, and social justice with both organizations and individuals across our country. This session is designed to support you on your journey as a coach to better understand your racial competence and biases and to learn how you can continue to build your coaching skills in this area. Tied directly to ICF competencies, this session will cover:

  • An exploration of social identity and its impact on coaching with your clients.

  • A better understanding of how your racial competence and biases may impact your coaching.

  • Building trust and creating space for authentic dialogue around the subject of race in the coaching process.

  • How coaches can improve their level of self-awareness and effectiveness to better support their client’s needs.

Outcomes:

You will leave this session with an understanding of your dominant and subordinated identities. You will also have a deeper understanding of privilege and power, its impact on your coaching and learn more about how to work across race, in a coaching context. This session will be facilitated by Cortney Cahill M.S.O.D. and Harold Hill M.B.A.
