This half-day workshop explores the concept of ROI, return on investment, specifically for the business of coaching. Participants quickly see the advantage of using ROI as six types of data are collected and analyzed. This workshop takes the mystery out of the use of ROI with examples and exercises. A case study will be used to show how the ROI process works to deliver business value to clients and executives.

Participants will walk away with a distinct methodology that can inform clients and organizations of the value of coaching. This skill set will be invaluable to all coaches who want to provide support, service, growth, and value in their businesses.


After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Make the business case for ROI

  • Develop program objectives at multiple levels

Dr. Jack J. Phillips is Chairman of ROI Institute and is a world-renowned expert on accountability, analytics, and evaluation. Dr. Phillips has served as training and development manager at two Fortune 500 firms, as senior human resource officer at two firms, as president of a regional bank, and as management professor at a major state university. He now provides consulting services for Fortune 500 companies and major global organizations.

Phillips has received several awards for his books and work. On three occasions, Meeting News named him one of the 25 Most Powerful People in the Meetings and Events Industry, based on his work on ROI. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) honored him with its highest creativity award for an ROI study as well as a book award for Improving Supervisors' Effectiveness. The American Society for Training and Development (now ATD) gave him its highest award, Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning and Development for his work on ROI.

The author or editor of more than 100 books and 300 articles, Dr. Phillips conducts workshops and presents at conferences all over the world. He has served on the boards of several private businesses, including two NASDAQ companies, and several nonprofits and associations, including the Association for Talent Development, The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), and the National Management Association (NMA). His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Fortune Magazine, and on CNN.
