A Message from the President

I Am Coach.  Hear Me Roar Listen.

I call myself a coach. You call yourself a coach. Have you ever wondered what your client calls you? Perhaps you and I should take our own advice and do some reflective thinking on that question.

According to the ICF definition, Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential…Coaches honor the client as creative, resourceful, and whole.

A process for provoking thought does not mean telling the client what to do, passing judgement on who the client is or what they are doing.  What it means to me is being willing to let go of control. Let go of control in order to more fully open my ears. Let go of control and be willing to not be the one who knows best! I find my most important moments in the coaching process to be when I remind myself, “I am not the expert. I am not the fixer.” My coaching client is not clueless and if that is the way I make them feel, I may actually be hurting their ability to find their own path forward, their own answers.

I don’t want my client to think of me as their parent. I want them to think of me as their thinking partner. For that to happen, if I am a true partner with the client, I have to be willing to question my own assumptions, beliefs and motivations, before I can do the same with them. I need to be hopeful, curious and care about the client so they can do the same and feel the same way for themselves. I have to expand my perspective so they can do the same for themselves.

Our March program will focus on active listening and coach presence, critical ICF coaching competencies.  Let’s get a head start and start reflecting on our coaching process for listening and presence. Let’s think about these competencies from our client’s point of view. How do they see these competencies showing up in us as their coach? Hint: reflecting is not a silent, motionless activity. Expand your perspective. Reach out to another member of ICFTN, meet for coffee and share your thoughts.

Provoke each otherDon’t stand still!

World Business and Executive Coach Summit (WBECS) is an organization dedicated to providing coaches with the world’s best training and resources, all available online. They partner with leading experts in the industry and offer interactive and digital learning experiences that allow the coaching community to grow and shape their skills. WBECS courses provide an easy and accessible way to complete CCEUs as well. Several members of our chapter participate in WBECS programs and speak highly of their experience.

WBECS has agreed to partner with ICF Tennessee to profit-share with the chapter when members sign up for their course using the link we provide. These funds will be reinvested in YOU to provide more resources and greater benefits as a chapter member. Best, all the same discount opportunities for individuals are still available to you.

If you are a WBECS client or wish to participate in their courses, please consider signing up through ICFTN to support your chapter. The next WBECS offering, “Narrative Coaching” will be launching soon, so watch your email and social media for more details. HOLISTIC COACH CERTIFICATION TRAINING | JUNE 3-14, 2019

Holistic Coach Certification

Attend a LIVE, in-person, 10-day class on location to earn 65 ICF-accredited hours. The live, in-person, onsite trainings allow trainees to complete their certification with minimal time away from their work, family, and home life. Class days run from 9am to 5pm during the 10-day period, with 65 total hours of classroom instruction. Trainings occur 2 weeks in a row with the weekend off in-between. At Radiant Coaches Academy, we do things differently: our training includes role play and anecdotal teaching as well as traditional approaches, because we believe that this combination helps you, as a coach-in-training better acquire and retain the information you’re learning. It gets even better: If you choose to attend a live, in-person training, you’ll automatically receive access to our online program at no additional charge (online-only students do not automatically receive access to the in-person trainings!)
