A Message from the Treasurer

Hello everyone!

My name is Jayne Robinson, and I am your ICFTN Treasurer at large for 2023/24. It is a pleasure to serve our wonderful coaching community in Tennessee!

This month’s update is all about our Financials. I know this is a dry topic for many of us coaches, however, dear reader, read on.

I contemplated how to make this article interesting for you (as a recovering Accountant myself) and I had this realization that as in coaching, creating and monitoring financials on behalf of an entity is built on trust; and our members trust that we, as your ICF Tennessee Board have policies, procedures and governance in place to be good stewards of the income we collect through your membership and the bills we pay on behalf of the Chapter.

You may ask ‘what frameworks are in place to make this happen?’

Every month, accounts are produced which are reviewed and signed off by our ICF Tennessee Chapter Board during our monthly meetings. On a governance note, we now have a Financial Oversight Committee which meets quarterly. An independent member at large (Currently Dr. Jason Brooks) reviews our past Financials and provides oversight on our decision making and future financial plans. Our accounts are reviewed and audited annually by an outside CPA and oversights from that perspective are applied.

When it comes to planning how we spend our funds, this is the time of year that we start our budgeting process for the following year – yes 2024 already! Our current and incoming Board Members scope out their expenditure plans and this is reviewed and voted upon by all our Boards and Committees before it is passed. This year we will be paying special attention to what was heard in the Listening Tour, to ensure that the budget reflects the wishes of our members in as much as is practicable and possible.

At this moment, the financial health of the Chapter has never been better, and we currently have record reserves, which is such great news! We hope to have our new website up and running by the end of the year and we will be hosting in-person conference(s) to foster learning, engagement and networking within our coaching community over the next year.

On a final note, if you have talent and interest in assisting in reviewing and reviving our financial policies, please let me know by emailing me at [email protected]. It would be a great way to get involved with our Chapter and time committal is guaranteed to be minimum – plans are to meet three times per annum.

Happy Fall y’all!
