Spotlight: Craig Paxson

1 - Where are you from, and how did you choose to live in Middle Tennessee?
I am originally from California, although I spent some time in Colorado, and went to college in Texas. After completing my Masters degree in Quality Assurance, I was recruited here by Rand McNally to be the Quality Manager. I moved here in 1994.
At that time, Rand McNally was more than just atlases. My division printed airline tickets (remember those?), bus and subway passes, and manufactured the original smart cards.
2 - What is your professional background, and why did you become a coach?
I was CEO of a small business, and after a merger I was given a bronze parachute (not a gold one, so I still need to work) and decided my mission would be to help small business owners and leaders become more effective managers.
3 - How did you choose your specialty area?
The greatest reward is watching “ah-ha!” moments when clients suddenly get it. I believe my job as a coach and consultant is to work myself out of a job. The more “ah-ha!” moments, the more the client has grown and the less they need me.

5- What is something that most ICFTN members would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m as Aspie – Asperger’s Syndrome. Most people would not know because I have worked very hard to overcome that difficulty.
6- How do you enjoy spending your free time?
My favorite pastime is coaching youth baseball.
