New Member Corner: John Fite, Ph.D.

What is the name of your company?
John Fite, Ph.D.
Are you an independent coach or a coach within an organization?
Independent Coach
What made you decide to be a coach?
I found that as a psychologist in a counseling practice, I worked with many employees from the same companies who reported the same set of difficulties. I have also worked with many CEO's and entrepreneurs who had to make very difficult decisions about their work and their relationships. I found all of that rewarding. I talked this over with my great friend of thirty years and executive coach Dan Haile before he passed and began a two year training program at MentorCoach in Executive Coaching which I completed in the pandemic. I began to work as a coach for BetterUp and completed training in the Hogan and CCL-360. I have also found many individuals struggle with work relationships and I am one of only individuals in the state certified by the Gottman Institute. While I work in helping couples, I have found that many of the same science-based principles apply to all relationships and to teams.
What is your area of interest?
Decision-making and relationships! Whether packaged as leadership, team-building or career development, my focus is on making excellent decisions and building a structure that supports creating a culture of connection.
Is there anything you would like us to know about you?
I believe in working with the whole person focusing on the ways that all the different parts of their life interact. I believe coaches have a tremendous responsibility to promote ethical behavior through empathy, compassion and powerful questions. I like to play guitar. My wife and I have had six exchange students live with us and we have currently visited three of them in their home countries. I love the friends that I have made during my coaching school years from around the world. I run a virtual support group for singles which started in the pandemic and is still thriving.
