1 - What is your professional background, and why did you become a coach?

My “first career” was in communications in the for-profit sector. I am currently in my 23rd year serving in the nonprofit sector, first as a development director, and now as the executive director of Insight Counseling Centers. I became a coach because I felt a “calling” to do this work. I remember visiting ICFTN to explore, and then I met with Pat White and Edy Nash to learn more about this helping profession. I am so glad I did!

2 - How did you choose your specialty area?

I work mostly with female professionals between the ages of 45-60 who have been in the workplace for a long time, yet are several years from retirement. They desire more from their professional lives and many are experiencing burnout. This specialty area actually chose me because I found myself in the same situation a few short years ago. I am grateful to be on the other side of that!

3 - What are the greatest challenges and greatest rewards of your career?

My greatest challenge took place during my first 24 months at Insight when we had to go through a financial turnaround. I’ve never considered myself to be a turnaround specialist. I work with a great team and we worked together to design financial processes and efficiencies that are allowing us to expand our mission while having the cash flow and infrastructure we need.

Career rewards include watching staff really grow into their roles and develop confidence in themselves, their instincts, and decisions. Another reward is watching my coaching clients build the lives they really want!

4 - How do you enjoy spending your free time?

Indoors I love knitting, quilting, reading, and crafting. Outdoors I enjoy gardening and running. I have completed 16 half marathons and have two on my calendar this year, pandemic permitting.

5 - What is something that most ICFTN members would be surprised to learn about you?

I am a Consulting Rosarian with the Nashville Rose Society. I am happy to help anyone reading this who has questions about growing roses.

6 - What is your favorite quote?

“I don’t attend every argument I am invited to.” I realize that’s not inspirational, but it’s kept me out of trouble! I wish I knew who to attribute it to.
