President's Letter

JULY 2022

Brenda Baird

com·mu·ni·ty

/kəˈmyo͞onədē/
Noun
1. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Coaches have long known that feeling safe and secure in a session helps clients focus their energy on self-awareness and learning. Research shows when coaching communities deliberately foster a sense of belonging, they see significant improvements in member programming and engagement. ICFTN is working to ensure we create a community that fosters belonging and respect. We’ve learned that taking a good community to a great community requires Chapter leadership to understand what is most important to our members. We want to understand what our members value and how the Chapter can best support coaches across the state.

The Board of Directors has committed to several initiatives designed to hear from members so that we can better plan for 2023 and beyond. Our goal is to be aligned with the needs of all coaches, no matter their geography, niche, tenure, or credential status.

We started 2022 with a Culture Awareness and Identity Survey. We want to learn more about the coaches in the Chapter to celebrate and honor them for who they are in the world. Please take the time to complete the survey if you haven’t already. Here is the link.

ICFTN Board Members and I also committed to visiting each of the four regions of Tennessee to meet “in person,” ask questions and listen. We’ve completed Listening Tours in Memphis and Knoxville. The next visit is to Nashville on July 21, 2022, at 4 pm CT at the Brentwood Library, and then to Chattanooga on July 25, 2022, at 1:30 pm. Attendance is free but does require registration. Here’s the link to register. We plan to share our findings with the membership at a future Chapter Meeting.

We hope to come away with practical ideas, support, and the confidence that we are building a coach community that serves all coaches in Tennessee.

With gratitude,

Brenda Baird
