President's Letter

MARCH 2022

Brenda Baird

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

March is a month of new beginnings. From the first day of Spring to Daylight Savings Time, it's a month bursting with change as Mother Nature begins to show off her colors after a cold, snowy winter season. No matter how big, small, silly, or serious the day, March celebrates many things that inspire us, like Peanut Butter Day or St. Patrick's Day. March has a celebration that can inspire everyone.

So, what inspires you? As each of us navigates our pathways and pitfalls throughout our coaching journey, the ICFTN coaching community of role models, collaborators, and mentors around us ignite our passions and place our biggest aspirations within reach.

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, we celebrate the chapter’s achievements and the progress of what’s possible by recognizing those women who have provided the chapter with their wisdom, motivation, and courage. There is a long list of women who have inspired us. Women who have served the chapter as a central role in ensuring the stable progress of the chapter and the long-term development of coaches in Tennessee.

Women, notably, have played the most prominent role in decision-making for the chapter since its inception. Those serving ICFTN as past president include:

2010 - Judy Kohler

2011 - Sandra Wimpelberg

2013 - Edy Nash

2014 - Mildred Walters

2015 -Terry Humphrey

2016 - Diane Watson

2018 - Pam Brown

2019 - Donna Yurdin

2020 - Joanna Williams

2021 - Karen Nash

During our recent Black History Month celebration, I asked four chapter leaders to tell us about their coaching journey. These leaders shared who and what was an inspiring force in their experiences. (If you missed the Celebration of Black Voices in ICFTN Leadership, click here to watch the video.)

As each chapter leader spoke of their motivation for entering the coaching profession or reaching high for that ICF credential, they eventually mentioned someone who stood out as the woman who inspired them. That woman was Pat White. Pat is the founder of the ICF Tennessee Chapter and serves the chapter as an Ex-Officio Board Member. Pat is the Spectrum Group, LLC founder. Additionally, as a certified mentor coach, Pat has developed dozens of coaches and holds a Master Certified Coach credential from the International Coaching Federation.

Please join me as we recognize the contribution of women who serve as influential leaders and change-makers for ICFTN and reflect on how we can inspire each other by increasing their confidence, helping them connect to others, and lifting them to challenge themselves to the next level.

Leaders like Pat White and the past presidents understood that building and growing a community is more about what you put in than what you get out. Coaches are agents of change and together we make a difference.

Hope to see you at an ICFTN event soon!

With gratitude,

Brenda Baird, PCC | 2022 ICFTN President
