1 - Where are you from, and how did you choose to live in Middle Tennessee?
I am originally from Colorado, born and raised in the Denver metro area. Working in Healthcare, I worked for years for an organizations whose corporate office was in Brentwood, Tennessee. After getting to a place where I was spending more time in Tennessee than I was in Colorado, we finally decided to move. That was about 14 years ago and we have loved being transplant Tennesseans ever since!
2 - What is your professional background, and why did you become a coach?
By background, I am a Physical Therapist, with both a Master's and Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. I have spent the majority of my career working in the geriatric healthcare space. In 2017 after transitioning away from the organization I had moved to TN for, a friend suggested my leadership style was more in line with coaching and I began exploring coach education. I started working in Healthcare because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives, so becoming a coach fills that same niche. Whether it is helping people live with more purpose or become more impactful leaders, I get the altruistic joy of making a difference and fundamental change in someone's life. There is nothing more impactful than asking the "light bulb" question, that one question and one moment that makes an individual or leader think entirely different about their situation or life. Uncovering their "True" situation and empowering them to take action.
3 - How did you choose your specialty area?
I never had planned to work in Healthcare, but when I applied to be a Therapy Aide, my intuition affirmed that I was in the right profession. So, my coaching path has followed the same intuitive road. My coaching practice has evolved into "Intuitive Leadership", which basically is working with leaders to give them tools and trust their intuition in their leadership skills, how to ask the right questions and communicate in a manner that unlocks the answers for and from their teams. Additionally, I believe that these leadership principles fit in our personal lives as we are the leaders of our own purpose and as such working with individuals to unlock their purpose and passion and how to lead themselves through a concept I call 1% Living, making small, consistent changes everyday focused on a plan or a goal will lead to sustainable change over time. This intuitive approach has called me to my specialty in leadership and personal coaching.
4 -What are the greatest challenges and greatest rewards of your career?
The greatest rewards in my coaching career have been in seeing clients fundamentally change the way they view and live their life. Seeing how they begin to realize their potential and eliminate the negative self talk and limiting beliefs. I truly believe coaches have the ability to change our world, one person at a time and like a ripple in the water, when done well, those people will positively change other's lives.
The most significant challenge is helping potential clients see the benefit of investing in themselves and understanding that for a large portion of our population you are only living at a fraction of your personal or leadership potential. When we see that we have the ability to do and be more, our instinct is to freeze, to panic and retreat back into safe behavior, getting clients through this hurdle in order to create a sustaining coaching practice is certainly the most challenging part of my coaching practice.
5- What is something that most ICFTN members would be surprised to learn about you?
I, just like everyone else, still challenge myself everyday to limit my self limiting beliefs. I retreat and panic and have to practice my affirmations, my coaching relationships and my fears to be able to make a change for others.
On a lighter note, I am a VERY PART TIME model and actor. This was a career I pursued right out of High School and let my self limit thoughts from really going for it, so now I enjoy having opportunities to do some work a few times a year!
6- How do you enjoy spending your free time?
I have been married 30 years and have 3 adult children all in the Nashville Metro area. I love spending time with my children and wife. I am an avid fitness person, enjoy working out and spending time with friends. I wouldn't say I am a hobby or interest type person, rather I tend to spend my time where my intuition is interested. This means some weeks, I may be an avid reader, the next week I might develop a keen interest in a sport or event I saw on TV. All this leads to growth and that likely is how I would define my free time, finding varied and interesting topics to expand my knowledge and experiences in the world.
